Speaking to reporters in Ganta, Nimba County, Superintendent Massaquoi highlighted key infrastructure projects, improvements in public services, and renewed efforts to promote peace and cross-border collaboration.
Infrastructure and Public Services Transformation
Superintendent Massaquoi reported that the reduction in violent incidents has created a more stable environment for growth, allowing various development projects to thrive. He lauded President Joseph Boakai for his unwavering support in driving infrastructure development, including road rehabilitation, construction of schools, and expansion of healthcare services.
“The ongoing projects reflect a strong commitment to community development, and we’re seeing tangible benefits already,” he said.
The superintendent cited the ongoing renovations of the Superintendent’s compound—which include the offices and residences of local officials—as a symbol of the government’s investment in effective service delivery.
Powering Lofa: World Bank Electricity Project
Addressing the long-standing challenge of electricity in the county, Superintendent Massaquoi disclosed that the World Bank is currently implementing a $27 million electricity project, initiated under the Weah administration and now supported by President Boakai’s government.
He stressed the transformative impact the project will have on local businesses, education, and healthcare services once fully implemented.
“Reliable electricity will change everything—from school performance to job creation,” Massaquoi noted.
Cross-Border Unity Ahead of Independence Day
Superintendent Massaquoi also underscored his commitment to regional integration, revealing plans to invite Guinean joint security forces to participate in Liberia’s July 26 Independence Day celebrations in Lofa.
“The goal is to celebrate our shared heritage and promote peace between Liberia and its neighbors,” he said.
Given Lofa’s proximity to Guinea and Sierra Leone, these efforts aim to strengthen diplomatic ties and boost cross-border economic and cultural collaboration.
Balancing Tradition and Education
In response to growing concerns about traditional practices interfering with formal education, Massaquoi reassured the public that his administration is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring all children remain in school.
“Our children deserve to learn in a safe environment. We’re working to make sure traditional practices no longer interfere with their right to education,” he said.
A Call for Investment and Concession Support
Despite the positive strides, the superintendent lamented the absence of concession companies in the county—a key factor in employment and revenue generation.
“We currently have no concession companies operating in Lofa. That needs to change if we are to create real economic opportunities for our youth,” Massaquoi stated.
He called on investors to explore Lofa’s vast potential, particularly in agriculture, where he believes the county can once again become a major food producer for Liberia.
Utilizing the County Development Fund
Superintendent Massaquoi also provided updates on the utilization of the County Development Fund, including renovations at the Lofa Prison Compound, where improvements are being made to water and electricity infrastructure.
“These upgrades are more than symbolic—they show what’s possible when we prioritize the needs of our institutions,” he said.
Reconciliation and Unity Post-Elections
Reflecting on the social atmosphere following recent elections, Massaquoi acknowledged past tensions but praised ongoing reconciliation efforts within communities.
He recounted how neighbors once divided by political differences have come together in renewed harmony, organizing cultural gatherings and promoting unity.
“We’ve moved from division to collaboration. People are reconnecting, celebrating diversity, and building a shared identity,” he said.
A Brighter Future for Lofa County
Superintendent Massaquoi’s vision for Lofa is one of prosperity built on infrastructure, education, and unity. With continued support from the national government and development partners, he believes the county is poised to become a model for progress and sustainable development in Liberia.
“Lofa is no longer in the shadows. We are rising, and with the support of our people and partners, our future looks brighter than ever.”
