The incident occurred on April 9, 2025, in Kpatou Town, while the team was en route to Electoral District #5 for a campaign event.

The deceased have been identified as 23-year-old Rita Dolo and 38-year-old Melvin Meneday Karl.

According to eyewitnesses, Karl, who was operating the motorcycle, lost control while allegedly speeding, leading to a fatal crash that killed both riders on the spot.

The pair were supporters of Cllr. Yealue and were following the main campaign convoy at the time of the incident. The deaths have sent shockwaves through the local community and the campaign circle.

In Ganta, friends, family members, and members of the student community expressed deep sorrow over the loss. They described the victims as vibrant young people who were active in youth development and electoral engagement in the county.

Cllr. Yealue, speaking to reporters following the incident, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. “This is a painful moment not only for the campaign but for all of Nimba. These were young people full of hope and energy, who believed in a better future for the county,” he said.

The candidate reiterated his commitment to championing the cause of young people in Nimba, declaring his campaign as a mission to bring “relief and real change” to the county’s leadership.

According to FrontPage Africa’s Nimba correspondent, the fatal crash marks the first reported deaths related to political campaign activities since the National Elections Commission (NEC) officially opened the senatorial by-election campaign period in Nimba County.

In a show of solidarity, the campaign team of fellow senatorial candidate Edith Gongloe-Weh also extended condolences to the affected families, calling the incident “a tragic loss to the youth of Nimba.”

Both victims were described as influential among young people during previous elections and civic events, and their deaths are being mourned across various communities in the county.
