Liberia and the United States have taken another step toward advancing the country’s Second Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact with the official opening of a new office for the Compact Development Team (CDT).
The opening ceremony brought together U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Joe Zadrozny and senior Liberian government officials, including Acting Chair of the Cabinet and Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Samuel A. Stevquoah, Minister of Finance and Development Planning Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Deputy Minister of Energy Charges Umehai, and National Coordinator of the CDT Alieu Fuad Nyei.
Government officials, development partners, and other stakeholders also attended the ceremony, which highlighted ongoing efforts to prepare Liberia for the implementation of its second MCC Compact. During the gathering, leaders reviewed progress made so far and discussed key next steps aimed at strengthening collaboration and advancing sustainable development initiatives across Liberia.
The new CDT office is expected to serve as an important platform for coordinating the work required to develop the Second MCC Compact, with a focus on creating opportunities for economic growth and improving development outcomes. The U.S.-Liberia collaboration under the MCC process forms part of broader efforts to address development constraints and lay the foundation for increased investment and economic opportunity.
