MONROVIA, LIBERIA – A photographic exhibition celebrating 15 years of UN Women’s work in Liberia will open tonight at the EJS Ministerial Complex, offering a visual journey through the organization’s transformative impact on gender equality and women’s empowerment across the country.
By Patience M. Jones
Titled “Young Enough to Transform, Old Enough to Deliver,” the exhibition commemorates UN Women’s global founding in July 2010 and highlights its strategic interventions, partnerships, and grassroots engagement in Liberia.
Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, the event brings together dignitaries, international partners, women’s rights activists, and community representatives in a collective celebration of progress and shared commitment.
The exhibition’s inaugural ceremony will be graced by Dr. Maxime Houinato, UN Women’s Regional Director for West and Central Africa, alongside Liberia’s government officials, youth groups, rural women leaders, and members of civil society.
A Visual Testimony of Transformation
Through a compelling collection of photographs, the exhibition documents the evolution of UN Women Liberia from a new agency with ambitious goals to a trusted national partner advancing tangible results for women and girls. The images feature landmark moments in the fight against gender-based violence, women’s political participation, peacebuilding initiatives, and economic empowerment programs.
“This exhibition is not just about photographs,” said Ms. Comfort Lamptey, UN Women’s Country Representative in Liberia. “It’s about the people and partnerships behind every image – women who dared to lead, communities that chose peace, and a nation that continues to move forward.”
Among the featured images are portraits of trailblazing Liberian women, community healing processes, and scenes from rural economic initiatives – all underscoring the resilience and agency of Liberian women and girls.
Legacy in Motion
Following its debut at the EJS Ministerial Complex, the exhibition will move to the One UN House on Tubman Boulevard, where it will remain open to the public.
UN Women’s 15-year presence in Liberia has solidified its role not only as an advocate but also as a partner in national development. Through its programs and collaborations, it has helped shape policies, inspired local leadership, and strengthened the foundation for a more equitable society.
As Liberia looks ahead, UN Women reaffirms its commitment to supporting a future where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive, contribute, and lead.
