Monrovia – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued a strong warning to students, parents, and schools in Liberia against paying unauthorized “flexibility fees” and participating in “exam camps” ahead of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), set to begin on May 15.

Speaking to reporters in Monrovia, WAEC Head of National Office Dale Gbotoe emphasized that the council does not authorize or collect any such fees and labeled them as fraudulent.
He cautioned students and parents to avoid individuals promising leaked exam papers in exchange for money.
“Some people take advantage of exam periods by scamming students with false promises. These claims are not only fraudulent but also harmful to the integrity of the exams,” Gbotoe said.
He urged students to report anyone soliciting such payments and assured that his office would take action. Gbotoe also warned schools that any institution found operating exam camps will have its results canceled.
“These camps mislead students and promote malpractice. We strongly advise against them,” he said, also appealing to parents not to allow children to leave home under the pretense of attending camps.
To improve exam security, Gbotoe announced that all candidates will take the same subjects simultaneously but will receive different sets of questions. He also disclosed that WAEC has reduced the number of proctors this year due to past incidents of misconduct.
“Proctors are expected to uphold integrity, not enable malpractice. Any violation of their duties is unacceptable,” he added.
The 2025 WASSCE will run from May 15 to June 10. A total of 53,201 candidates from 1,048 high schools are registered to sit for the exams across Liberia. WAEC says it is finalizing preparations and is fully ready to administer the exams nationwide.
