Liberia: Woman Caught Smuggling Over 3kg Of Cocaine Through Roberts International Airport

MONROVIA – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has confirmed the arrest of a 39-year-old Liberian woman, Quita Kosso Dolo, for attempting to smuggle more than three kilograms of cocaine through the Roberts International Airport (RIA).

According to an official LDEA release issued on Thursday, July 17, 2025, the arrest took place at about 6:30 AM on Saturday, July 12, 2025, shortly after Dolo arrived in the country aboard Kenya Airways flight KQ887 from Nairobi, following a connection from Bangkok, Thailand.

Despite having cleared Immigration and Customs, LDEA officers observed suspicious behavior and initiated a secondary search of Dolo’s belongings. The search led to the discovery of ten compressed plates of a white powdery substance concealed in her luggage. Laboratory testing later confirmed the substance to be cocaine, weighing 3.355 kilograms, with an estimated street value of US$181,008, equivalent to approximately L$36 million.

In her preliminary statement to investigators, Dolo claimed she was unknowingly used as a drug mule. She alleged that a longtime friend, identified only as Henry Iki, a Nigerian national based in Nigeria, asked her to retrieve a suitcase from an associate in Thailand and deliver it to Monrovia. Dolo maintained that she was told the suitcase contained only clothing and that it was to be handed over to a man named “Obi.”

The case took a further twist when, at around 1:30 AM, a man identified as Tony Obi, a 38-year-old Nigerian and believed to be the brother of Henry Iki, allegedly attempted to bribe LDEA officers at the airport to secure the release of Dolo and the seized suitcase. Obi was immediately arrested and is currently in custody.

“This is a clear indication that organized networks continue to use Liberia as a transit hub,” the LDEA noted in its release, adding that drug trafficking remains a major threat to national security. The agency reminded the public that under Liberia’s revised drug law, narcotics-related crimes are non-bailable.

The LDEA reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on illicit drugs and pledged to pursue all traffickers with the full force of the law. “The full weight of the law will be applied to all traffickers,” the statement said.

Both suspects remain in custody pending further investigation and prosecution.
