Liberia: Woman Detained For Allegedly Cutting 10-year-old Girl’s Finger

MONROVIA – Police in Gardnerville have arrested and detained Eve Whymah and her husband after she allegedly cut off part of the finger of a 10-year-old girl, identified only as Georgina, in the Georgia Gulf community. The pair are currently being held at the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) Zone 4 Police Station as investigations continue.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred after Whymah accused the young girl of being responsible for a baby’s fall while the children were playing. In a fit of anger, Whymah reportedly attacked the child, inflicting a deep wound that severed part of her finger.

The victim was rushed to a local clinic in the community, where she is receiving treatment. Health workers confirmed that Georgina’s condition is stable but stressed that the injury will require ongoing medical attention.

Community residents have expressed outrage over the attack, describing it as cruel and unacceptable. Many are calling on the authorities to ensure that justice is served and that such violence against children is met with the full weight of the law.

Local police confirmed the arrest and detention of Whymah and her husband but said details of the investigation are still being gathered. The LNP has assured the public that a full report will be made available once the inquiry is complete.

The case has reignited conversations about child protection and accountability in communities, with residents urging law enforcement agencies to take stronger measures to safeguard children from abuse.
