According to reports, the incident occurred at Goe’s newly constructed residence in Marshall, Margibi County.

In a statement issued by the Chairperson of the Women’s Legislative Caucus, Representative Ellen Attoh-Wreh of Margibi County Electoral District 3, the group expressed deep sorrow over the killing and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

“It is particularly tragic that the victim, a Liberian citizen who had recently returned home from Canada, met such an untimely and violent end,” the Caucus stated.

The group has called on the Liberia National Police and other relevant security agencies to launch a thorough, impartial investigation into the case. The Caucus emphasized that justice must be served not only for the sake of the victim’s family but also to demonstrate Liberia’s commitment to protecting women and girls.

“Justice must be served — not only to bring closure to the family but also to reaffirm the country’s commitment to protecting the lives and dignity of all women and girls in Liberia,” the statement added.

The killing of Ciannah Goe has reignited public concern about the growing threat of sexual and gender-based violence in the country. The Women’s Legislative Caucus said the case serves as a tragic reminder of the need for stronger protection and legal enforcement mechanisms.

“This case underscores the urgent need to strengthen efforts aimed at preventing sexual and gender-based violence, ensuring perpetrators are held accountable, and creating a safer society for every Liberian, regardless of gender,” the statement read.

The Caucus reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside national and international partners to push for policies and actions that ensure no woman or girl lives in fear, whether at home or in the community.

As investigations continue, civil society groups and human rights advocates have joined the call for swift justice and long-term policy reforms to address the persistent wave of violence against women in Liberia.
