Liberia: Woodson Praises U-20 Girls’ WAFU Success; Urges Focus Ahead of Senegal Clash

MONROVIA – Rochell Woodson, a prominent candidate for the Women’s Football Representative position in the upcoming 2026 Liberia Football Association (LFA) elections, has hailed the Liberia U-20 Girls National Team following their clinical opening victory in the ongoing WAFU Zone A tournament in Guinea-Bissau.

The Female Lone Star kicked off their regional campaign in dominant fashion, securing a 2-0 win over the host nation. The result has ignited optimism within the Liberian football community as the team eyes a spot in the knockout stages.

Woodson, often referred to as the “Iron Lady” of Liberian football for her staunch advocacy for the female game, lauded the squad for a disciplined and spirited performance. She noted that the victory is a testament to the tactical growth and grit of the young players.

“The girls showed immense character, discipline, and confidence on the pitch,” Woodson stated. “This performance is a clear indicator of the progress we are making in women’s football at the youth level. It’s about building a winning culture.”

Reflecting on the team’s potential, Woodson expressed her belief that the squad possesses the technical quality to reach the tournament final, provided they maintain their tactical shape and composure.

However, the “Iron Lady” was quick to remind the team that the job is far from over. Liberia is now set for a high-stakes encounter against a formidable Senegalese side.

The U-20 Girls completed their final training session on Thursday at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro in preparation for Friday’s showdown. The match, scheduled for a 4:00 PM kickoff, is widely viewed as a litmus test for Liberia’s title ambitions.

With three points already in the bag, a positive result against Senegal would all but guarantee the Female Lone Star a place in the semifinals. All eyes now remain on the Estádio Nacional to see if the young Liberian side can sustain their momentum against one of West Africa’s regional powerhouses.
