Responding to a toast by President Boakai, President Mason described her visit to Liberia as the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship between the two nations.
“I want you to know that my visit to Liberia signifies serious business,” she said.
She continued: “The Prime Minister outlined several key areas we are looking to focus on. But what matters most to me is this: all of you can now come to Barbados without a visa.”
Encouraging Liberians to take advantage of the opportunity, President Mason said: “If you choose to visit me, we will be ready to receive you warmly. I want to see you in our home very soon.”
She emphasized that while Barbados is known globally as a tourist destination, Liberians visiting the island will not be considered tourists.
“It’s not just because we are a tourist destination. You won’t be tourists—you’ll be coming back home. So please, come back home. We will welcome you,” she assured.
President Mason is on her maiden state visit to Liberia. She is expected to join President Boakai to grace an event in Crozierville today in honor of three Liberian leaders with Barbados descent. They include former Presidents Arthur Barclay and Edwin James Barclay, as well as the Chairman of the National Transitional Government of Liberia, the late Charles Gyude Bryant.
