Buchanan โ€“ Grand Bassa Countyโ€™s five representatives remain deeply divided over the Supreme Courtโ€™s recent ruling, which has further intensified the ongoing struggle for the Speakership at the House of Representatives.

The ruling, which legitimized Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffaโ€™s leadership, has left the county’s legislative delegation split, with potential implications for the county’s development.

Rep. Isaac Bannie, Rep. Clarence Banks, and Rep. Alfred Flomo of Grand Bassaโ€™s Districts 1, 2, and 4 have chosen to align with the Majority bloc of Speaker Richard Koon, while Rep. Matthew Joe and Rep. Thomas Goshua of Districts 3 and 5 have thrown their support behind the Minority bloc, led by Speaker Koffa.

This division within the delegation has created a significant imbalance in the county’s representation in the legislature, with crucial decisions about the countyโ€™s development hanging in the balance.

Since the conflict over the speakership began in 2024, the lawmakers from Grand Bassa County have failed to provide any meaningful legislative reports or updates to their constituents. As a result, the people of Grand Bassa have been left without clear information about the status of important legislative issues that could directly affect the countyโ€™s progress.

The divided stance among Grand Bassaโ€™s representatives has raised concerns about the countyโ€™s future, as lawmakers continue to focus on their own political allegiances rather than the needs of their people. While some argue that the rule of law must be upheld, others believe that achieving a quorum and maintaining legislative stability is crucial to ensuring effective governance.

With no clear resolution in sight, the ongoing struggle for power within the House of Representatives continues to impede Grand Bassaโ€™s legislative activities, leaving many questioning whether the countyโ€™s interests are truly being prioritized in this political battle.
