Liberian Asset Recovery Taskforce Vows To Track And Extradite Fugitives Evading Prosecution

MONROVIA – The Asset Recovery and Property Retrieval Taskforce (AREPT) has issued a stern warning to individuals under investigation who are reportedly attempting to flee Liberia to evade justice. In a statement released Monday, July 14, and signed by Joseph Daniels, Public Relations Officer of the Taskforce, AREPT emphasized that fleeing the country will not shield anyone from investigation or prosecution.

According to the Taskforce, such actions not only heighten public suspicion but also strengthen the government’s resolve to recover stolen assets and enforce the rule of law. AREPT stressed that, with full backing from international agencies and diplomatic partners, it will employ all legal avenues to locate, apprehend, and return fugitives to Liberia to face justice.

The Taskforce detailed plans to activate formal diplomatic channels through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, submit extradition requests under applicable regional and international treaties, and collaborate with institutions such as INTERPOL, ECOWAS, the African Union, and global asset recovery networks.

AREPT reminded all persons of interest that cooperation with ongoing investigations is a legal obligation, not a choice. It cautioned that any effort to obstruct justice by fleeing the country will be met with lawful, coordinated, and resolute action.

Reaffirming its commitment to a process grounded in due process and national accountability, the Taskforce assured the public that its efforts remain non-political and transparent. “No one is above the law,” the statement concluded, “and no attempt to flee will ultimately succeed.”
