Liberian Government to withhold Salaries of Suspended Officials and place in Escrow account – Global News Network Liberia

Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberian government, via the Civil Service Agency (CSA), announced that the February 2025 salaries of 216 suspended officials will be withheld and placed in an escrow account.  This action follows President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s sanctioning of these officials.

CSA Director General Dr. Josiah F. Joekai Jr. made the announcement at a Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) press briefing on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. He stated that the affected officials will not receive their salaries until they obtain clearance from the Ministry of State.

Dr. Joekai explained that the Bureau of State-Owned Enterprises and the CSA are working together to ensure compliance with clearance processes for officials listed by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) and submitted to President Boakai.  Out of 457 individuals affected, 216 government officials from various ministries, agencies, and commissions will have their payments withheld pending final clearance.

The CSA Director-General also announced salary adjustments or “top-ups” for 2025 for employees of the Ministries of Agriculture and Education, the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), and the Liberia National Police (LNP).

Furthermore, civil servants who retired in 2019, 2021, and 2024 will have their benefits processed through the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) using the CSA’s C-One form.

Dr. Joekai reiterated President Boakai’s commitment to transparency and accountability, noting that the President, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, and several senior officials, including himself, have already declared their assets.  He urged all public officials to adhere to ethical governance practices.

This salary withholding measure emphasizes the government’s drive to enforce administrative regulations and promote financial accountability within the public sector.
