CHANGSHA, CHINA – Nyantee Genero Samuel Togba of OK FM, representing Liberia’s media delegation, delivered opening remarks on August 1, 2025, at the launch of a seminar on Media Communication Capacity for Liberia, held in Changsha, Hunan Province. The event, hosted by the Hunan International Business Vocational College in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy near Monrovia, brought together Liberian journalists to engage in a week-long training focused on media development, culture, and international cooperation.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Togba expressed appreciation to the organizers for facilitating the visit and providing the opportunity for Liberian journalists to explore China’s media landscape, cultural history, and development model. “We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Chinese Embassy near Monrovia and the Hunan International Business Vocational College for affording us this remarkable opportunity,” Togba said. He noted that for many participants, including himself, it was their first time traveling beyond Liberia’s borders.
The seminar, according to Togba, comes at a critical time for Liberia’s media sector, which is navigating both challenges and opportunities in the face of evolving global trends. He commended the setting of Changsha as a fitting backdrop, highlighting the city’s historical significance and its values of perseverance, integrity and responsibility, ideals that closely align with the principles of journalism.
Togba praised the seminar for offering insights into China’s development journey, including its political evolution, economic reforms, and poverty alleviation efforts. He also acknowledged the role of media in telling transformative stories and emphasized the importance of such exchanges in broadening the perspective of Liberian media professionals.
In his remarks, Togba reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to the One China Policy and acknowledged China’s contribution to Liberia’s development, citing key infrastructure projects such as the Ministerial Complex and the University of Liberia’s Fendell campus. He described these initiatives as proof of the “strong diplomatic collaboration rooted in mutual respect and shared development goals.”
Togba urged the Hunan International Business Vocational College and the Chinese Embassy to continue creating similar opportunities for Liberian journalists and technical experts. He said such programs would help deepen understanding of China’s economic and industrial landscape and inspire innovation within Liberia’s media and other critical sectors.
Concluding his remarks, Togba thanked the hosts for their hospitality and reiterated the Liberian delegation’s commitment to fully engaging in the seminar and advancing media cooperation between the two nations.
