Monrovia– A land dispute of the Soul Clinic Community, which arrested several persons and was taken to the Monrovia Central Prison, has drawn Representative Michael M. Thomas’ attention.
“In the coming days, Hon. Thomas will convene a mass community meeting to engage with residents to address concerns, and provide updates on the legal process,” a release from Representative Thomas’ office said.
Recently, the Soul Clinic Community was a scene of action when a group of armed men accompanied by surveyors forcefully entered the F-Sham belt with a chap claiming over 60 acres of land.
Residents found the action abnormal and hopeless for them; therefore, they resisted and were arrested and detained at the Monrovia Central Prison (The South Beach) pending an investigation.
But as the detained citizens’ cried for justice, it pierced Representative Thomas’ heart and he secured the immediate release of all detained individuals from the Monrovia Central Prison. Mostly, his humanitarian action is a result of a planned conference with the complainant to address the dispute.
As Representative of Montserrado County District #4, whose heartbeat is the people’s well being, he has reaffirmed his commitment to protect the rights of everyone, including residents of Soul Clinic Community to ensure a fair resolution in the land conflict.
He stressed the importance of dialogue, collaboration and legal due process in resolving the matter. However, Representative Thomas’ office says he is in collaboration with local authorities and legal experts to scrutinize the land claims made by the chap, the armed group and surveyors.
In a related development, the Representative’s office says, steps will be taken to prevent further intrusions and safeguard the community’s property rights. “Thomas urges all residents to remain calm, vigilant, and engaged as efforts continue to resolve the dispute justly,” the release said.
A land claim is a formal declaration of a territorial ownership or right to use land, often used in situations of disputed or unresolved land disputes. It can involve various types of claims, such as aboriginal land claims, post-colonial land claims, or even mining claims.
Aboriginal Land Claims: These claims assert the rights of Indigenous peoples to lands based on their traditional use and occupation, often stemming from pre-colonial times. Post-Colonial Land Claims: These claims arise from situations where land has been taken or transferred as a result of colonization or other historical injustices.
Antarctic Land Claims: These claims involve the assertion of territorial rights in Antarctica, a continent with no sovereign territorial control. Mining Claims: These claims grant the right to explore, extract, and potentially develop mineral resources on a specific parcel of land.
