Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia’s Minister of Health, Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto, has been conferred the prestigious title of Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS), adding to her extensive list of professional qualifications and achievements.
Dr. Kpoto, who holds an MD, an MPH in Epidemiology, an MMed in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a PhD in Tropical Medicine, was officially inducted into the Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynecology by the President of the West African College of Surgeons on February 20, 2025. The induction took place during the 65th Scientific Congress of the College in Bamako, Mali.
Prior to her appointment as Minister of Health, Dr. Kpoto served as a lecturer at the Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons (LCPS) and was a consultant obstetrician-gynecologist at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center. Her latest achievement further cements her reputation as a leading medical professional committed to enhancing healthcare standards in Liberia.
Established in 1960, the West African College of Surgeons is the largest professional body of its kind in the subregion and one of the most esteemed in Africa. The institution trains surgical specialists to international standards, conducts research, administers examinations, and collaborates with key global health organizations, including the West African Health Organization (WAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), to strengthen healthcare capacity in West Africa.
