Dr. Teeko T. Yorlay, Liberia’s Ambassador to France, held a pivotal meeting with Mrs. Celue Doe-Addo, daughter of the late Liberian President Samuel K. Doe, at the Embassy of Liberia near Paris.

The discussion focused on Liberia’s ongoing national reconciliation process, spearheaded by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, and highlighted the significance of addressing historical grievances to achieve lasting peace and unity.

On the issues of national healing and reconciliation initiatives, Ambassador Yorlay emphasized President Boakai’s commitment to national healing, citing ongoing efforts to honor former Presidents William R. Tolbert and Samuel K. Doe, both victims of political violence. This initiative aims to reconcile Liberia’s troubled past by promoting unity and forgiveness.

Speaking on the role of the Doe Family, the Liberian diplomat encouraged Mrs. Doe-Addo and her family to actively participate in the reconciliation process, acknowledging her late father’s significant role in Liberia’s history.

Personal Reflections and Commitment: Mrs. Doe-Addo shared her personal story of survival, recounting her departure from Liberia at age seven amid conflict in 1990, and expressed her deep commitment to supporting reconciliation efforts. She highlighted her ongoing initiatives, including establishing a foundation to foster unity among historically opposed families, notably the Doe and Quiwonkpa families.

Planned Return to Liberia: Mrs. Doe-Addo’s forthcoming visit, her first in 35 years, will include refurbishing her mother’s grave in Bomi County and engaging with local communities, particularly in Nimba County. Ambassador Yorlay and Mrs. Doe-Addo agreed to arrange discussions with local leaders in Nimba County to promote peace and reconciliation.

Diplomatic Support: Ambassador Yorlay committed to facilitating connections for Mrs. Doe-Addo with prominent Liberian officials, including Senator Nya D. Twayen, Jr., and supporting her engagement with Nimba County’s leaders.

The meeting concluded with mutual acknowledgment of the importance of fostering dialogue and understanding as Liberia continues on its path toward reconciliation and sustainable peace.
