In an exclusive interview with FrontPageAfrica, LNHA President J. Aratus G. Larkpor explained that the teams began early training to ensure they are physically and mentally prepared for the challenges ahead.

He emphasized that the early preparation will focus on improving the athletes’ ball possession, passing accuracy, and finishing skills to help them compete effectively against their opponents.

“The IHF tournament is scheduled for April, so our athletes have started training to engage their opponents with sportsmanship, delivering the necessary results not just for the teams but for the country and handball fans. We hope the training will help the athletes improve their skills ahead of the tournament,” Larkpor said.

Larkpor also stressed the importance of selecting players based on merit, calling on the four coaches responsible for the teams’ training to leave no stone unturned in the selection process. He expressed a desire for the athletes chosen to represent Liberia to help secure victories against teams from Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Niger, and tournament host Ivory Coast.

The four coaches overseeing the training are Arthur Darmoh, Beyan S. Kwiah, Zwannah Taylor, and James Keller. The training program will last for one month and one week, and all four coaches will be part of the teams’ visit to Abidjan.

Larkpor also appealed to the national government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Liberia National Olympic Committee, and other sports supporters, for assistance with sports equipment and financial support to help continue the teams’ preparation for the IHF tournament in Ivory Coast.
