Monrovia, Liberia; May 8, 2025: The Liberia National Students’ Union (LINSU) has begun preparations for the Liberia National Quizzing Championship 2026, a nationwide academic competition aimed at fostering intellectual excellence and student participation in education.
According to LINSU, the competition will begin with county-level contests and climax in a national championship scheduled for Grand Gedeh County, under the theme: “Unlocking Potentials to Enhance National Development Through Academic Excellence.”
Speaking Thursday during a press conference at the union’s headquarters in Monrovia, LINSU President James K. Washington thanked several institutions and partners for their continued support toward education and youth empowerment in Liberia.
Among those recognized were the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Education, the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP), the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), and Catholic Relief Services.
As part of the event, the student body showcased 16 awards and 19 quizzing boards to demonstrate its readiness for the championship. Organizers said the initiative is intended to inspire a culture of academic excellence while providing students with a platform to demonstrate their abilities in science, mathematics, history, geography, literature, and current affairs.
The LINSU president noted that education remains one of the strongest pillars for national development, adding that academic competitions can help foster unity, discipline, leadership, and patriotism among young Liberians.
During the briefing, the union’s Secretary General Darius S. Toweh, Jr. provided an overview of the project before introducing the LINSU President, who outlined the broader objectives of the initiative. In his remarks, the president called on the government, development partners, donors, educational stakeholders, and other well-meaning Liberians to support the competition.
“Together, through collective partnership and support, we can inspire a generation of informed, innovative, and nationally conscious young Liberians,” he said.
The LINSU president also disclosed that part of the union’s office renovation funds had been redirected to purchase materials needed for the competition.
