MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has expressed deep concern over a viral video circulating on social media showing a tricycle rider assaulting a uniformed officer, an incident that has sparked public outrage and confusion regarding the officer’s affiliation.
In a press release issued on Friday, September 5, 2025, LNP Deputy Commissioner Cecelia G. Clarke, Chief of Press & Public Affairs Division and Spokesperson, clarified that the officer in the video is not a member of the LNP, but Officer David Johnson of the Paynesville City Corporation Police (PCP/PCC). The statement emphasized that while Officer Johnson does not serve under the LNP command, “violence against any officer or security personnel is violence against the values of peace and rule of law that protect us all. Such acts are unlawful, unacceptable, and must be condemned by every Liberian who desires a safe and just society.”
The LNP confirmed that, with its support, efforts are underway to identify, arrest, and prosecute the perpetrator. The police institution underscored its solidarity with all officers who risk their lives daily to maintain law and order, assuring the public that justice will be pursued.
The press release also highlighted concerns regarding the unauthorized use of LNP uniforms, badges, and insignias by non-LNP personnel. “This practice creates confusion, erodes public trust, and brings undue embarrassment to our institution. We call on all agencies and individuals to desist at once. Firm measures will be taken to protect the integrity of the LNP,” the release stated.
The LNP reaffirmed its neutrality, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to protecting all citizens without fear or favor. The police urged Liberians to reject acts of violence, respect those who serve, and strengthen public trust in the institutions responsible for national safety.
