The Liberia National Police on Friday, July 25, 2025, dedicated two police sub-stations in Nimba County Electoral District 6.
The police sub-stations were constructed in Toweh Town in the Boe-Quillah Administrative District and other in Old Yourpea in the Kparblee Administrative District, all of these districts fall under Nimba Electoral District six, represented in the Lower House of Parliament by the Representative Twain Dorwoan Gleekia.
The cost of the projects is yet to be established, but the stations are situated strategically in these remote communities where the issue of security remains paramount in terms of enhancing law and orders.
Both administrative districts have been fully relying on the services of police from Tappita Police Detail, which makes it difficult for officers to respond quickly to incidents within these districts.
The two police stations are where the Gio National Forest is situated, an area highly exploited by Burkinabé nationals for cocoa plantation.
The Karblee Administrative District in particular is also situated at the border with Ivory Coast, which is vulnerable to criminals who cross to the neighboring country after committing their crimes.
There have been a series of clashes between the locals and the Burkinabé in the reserve forest, where early this year, a Burkinabé was found dead in the forest.
Residents of these two districts have for decades expressed concerns over rising criminal activity and the absence of a permanent police presence to provide security and a timely response to crimes.
The official dedication ceremony was held on Friday, July 25, 2025, drawing local leaders, security officials, and community members from across the region.
Rep. Gleekia’s office described the initiative as a direct response to the growing complaint from citizens for improved law enforcement present in their communities.
“This is not just about constructing buildings, rather it’s about making the communities safer from crimes or insecurity,” he noted.
The facilities were immediately turned over to the Nimba County Police Detachment through Assistant Commissioner of Police Larmie Mendin.
ACP Mendin commended Rep. Gleekia for the stations and immediately began the deployment of some officers to the two depots who will immediately begin operations.
He explained that the police stations came at the right night because crimes were on the rise in these remote areas.
“ACP Mendin urged the citizens to see the police as partners and to work along with them so as to properly carry on their work.
However, the residents have praised Rep. Gleekia for taking concrete action to meet their security needs.
They further appealed for additional support, such as motorcycles for the officers to enhance their movement and also respond rapidly.
The dedicatory ceremony was attended by several high-ranking regional security officers, including the Regional Commander of the Liberia National Police, officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Liberia Immigration Services and among others.
Despite happiness in the faces of some residents of the presence of police stations in their communities, there is skepticism among some residents over the erection of checkpoint/gate in an area where police are stationed, which are allegedly used to extort money from motorcyclists/vehicles.
