Lnp Hands Over Seized Marijuana Worth Nearly Us$10,000 To Drug Enforcement Agency

MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) on Monday, September 15, 2025, turned over a large cache of marijuana to the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) headquarters in Monrovia following a confiscation in Jacobs Town.

According to police reports, officers intercepted 100,800 compressed marijuana units near the James Davies Bloc in Jacobs Town at around 9 p.m. Monday night. The haul is estimated to be worth approximately US$9,576, with each unit valued at about US$76.

Deputy Director for Administration at the LNP, Ernest Tarpeh, disclosed that suspects fled the scene before law enforcement could make any arrests. He assured the public that although no one has been apprehended yet, the LDEA’s intelligence network remains active and will pursue those linked to the illicit drugs. “We are confident that those responsible will be arrested and brought to justice,” Tarpeh said.

Upon receiving the seized marijuana, LDEA Officer-in-Charge Fitzgerald Biagon commended the police for their collaboration and stressed the importance of coordination between security agencies in combating drug trafficking. Biagon noted that the LDEA’s work goes beyond drug arrests, encompassing efforts aimed at disrupting the efficiency of drug trafficking networks operating in the country.

The handover underscores the government’s continuing fight against narcotics at a time when drug abuse and trafficking remain persistent challenges in Liberia.
