LNP Suspends Four Officers for Misconduct

MONROVIA, November 2, 2026: The Liberia National Police (LNP) has suspended four officers without salary for various disciplinary violations, including alleged assault, excessive use of force, negligence of duty, corruption and gross insubordination.

According to disciplinary letters issued by the LNP Human Resource Management Division between October 28 and 29, Patrolman Thomas W. Woart was suspended indefinitely without salary and referred for criminal investigation over alleged misconduct.

Patrolman Roderick Samukai received a two-month suspension without salary for negligence of duty, while Patrolmen John V. Roques and Melvin K. Jappah were each suspended for six months without salary over alleged corruption and other disciplinary violations.

The LNP disclosed that all four officers have been instructed to surrender government-issued properties during their suspension periods.

However, the affected officers retain the right to appeal the disciplinary actions under the LNP Administrative Instructions on Discipline and Professional Standards.

In a statement issued Monday, November 2, the police administration reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing discipline and accountability within the force, warning that misconduct and violations of professional standards will not be tolerated.

The LNP emphasized that professionalism, integrity, accountability and respect for lawful authority remain fundamental requirements for all officers.

It further assured the public that disciplinary measures would be enforced in accordance with established procedures while respecting the rights of affected personnel.

The police administration said the measures form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen professionalism, restore public confidence and ensure accountability within the institution.
