LNP Suspends Officer Caught Sleeping in Kehkeh

MONROVIA, Liberia, September 9, 2026 — The Liberia National Police (LNP) has suspended Police Support Unit Sergeant Eriah G. Gbainyee for two months without pay after he was reportedly found in uniform sleeping inside a parked commercial tricycle, locally known as a kehkeh, in central Monrovia.

The LNP described Gbainyee’s conduct as an ethical breach and violation of its administrative rules governing discipline and professional standards.

According to an official LNP communication dated September 7, 2026, the suspension took effect on August 4 following an investigation into the incident.

The police said Gbainyee was found wearing his Type “B” police uniform while sleeping inside a yellow tricycle parked near the Techno Store along Capitol Bypass.

The LNP said the disciplinary action was taken in accordance with its Human Resources Administrative Instructions on Discipline and Professional Standards.

During the two-month suspension, Gbainyee has been ordered to surrender all government-issued property, including his uniform, badge and identification card.

He is also prohibited from identifying himself as a member of the Liberia National Police for the duration of the suspension.

Meanwhile, the LNP has lifted the suspensions of eight other officers who had previously faced disciplinary action for what the police described as unethical conduct.

Those reinstated are Patrolmen Murphyson K. Entsua, Musa S. Kamara, Marcus T. Tengbeh, Marian B. Cole, Alexander C. Weah and Solomon D. Chea Jr.; Superintendent Momodu S. Sanyon; and Sergeant Jeremiah C. Kerdoe.

The Police Administration cautioned the reinstated officers against repeating the conduct that led to their suspensions, warning that further violations could result in more stringent disciplinary action.

The LNP said it remains committed to professionalism, discipline and accountability and to maintaining high standards of conduct among its personnel.
