President Joseph N. Boakai has emphasized that the lack of sustainable employment opportunities for Liberia’s youth could lead the country into trouble and potentially foster chaos. He urged government officials to create avenues for young people to find work.
The president made these remarks on Thursday, March 13, 2025, during the second Cabinet meeting at the Executive Mansion, themed “Coordination and Information Dissemination in Government: Why It Matters.” He called for an expedited focus on job creation and youth empowerment.
According to him, the country is facing significant challenges driven by special interests, and if these issues are to be resolved, the national interest must take precedence over all other interests. Boakai stated, “You can address a special interest problem, but if the country’s problems remain unresolved, we will be in trouble.”
He urged cabinet members to engage with their constituents actively and ensure that various entities remain functional and beneficial for the citizens. “We must work with the people who come to our offices; otherwise, we will end up with paralyzed offices,” he stated.
Additionally, the president urged young people to refrain from violence, as it threatens to deter potential investors. He pointed out that violence is prevalent and that destructive actions—such as the repeated burning of the Sethe Wealla Farm—will hinder investment opportunities.
“These are issues we need to address. There are laws against recklessness that we need to examine critically and act upon, because even the Bible says, ‘be angry and sin not,’” he said.
