MONROVIA – The Liberia Political Centrism Movement (LPCM) has commended the Government of Liberia for upholding democratic values by allowing the July 17, 2025 protest organized by STAND to proceed peacefully. In a press release issued by the Office of LPCM Chairperson, Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala, the organization praised the government’s exercise of restraint and respect for citizens’ constitutional rights to freely assemble and express dissent without intimidation or excessive force.
“The government’s conduct reflects positively on Liberia’s evolving democratic credentials,” the statement noted.
LPCM also lauded the leadership of STAND for their peaceful and law-abiding approach to civic engagement. The movement emphasized that in a democracy, public protests, when conducted responsibly, are essential tools for promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation.
“As a centrist and non-partisan political action platform,” LPCM stated, “we remain committed to fostering dialogue, consensus-building, and principled engagement. We look forward to working with both the Government of Liberia and STAND to mediate, listen, and explore viable, balanced, and homegrown solutions to the issues raised, particularly those related to governance, corruption, and service delivery.”
The group concluded by affirming its belief that Liberia’s challenges are not insurmountable and can be resolved through unity, constructive dialogue, and a shared respect for democratic norms.
“LPCM stands ready to play its part in this national effort,” the statement concluded.
