The Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) has launched a short-term employment program for university graduates, university students and students enrolled in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, as part of efforts to strengthen youth employment and equip young Liberians with practical workplace experience.
According to the Corporation through a press release dated July 1, 2026, the initiative is intended to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and professional practice by placing participants in various departments across the institution, where they will gain hands-on experience and develop skills relevant to today’s labor market.
LWSC Management in the release said the program reflects the Corporation’s ongoing commitment to youth empowerment and workforce development, stressing that providing practical work opportunities is critical to preparing the country’s next generation of professionals.
The Corporation noted that participants will be exposed to real working environments, enabling them to acquire practical knowledge, improve their professional competencies and enhance their competitiveness in seeking long-term employment.
Management further emphasized that the initiative forms part of the institution’s broader strategy to support sustainable national development by investing in Liberia’s human capital and helping build a skilled workforce capable of driving economic growth.
The launch comes at a time when youth unemployment remains one of Liberia’s most pressing socioeconomic challenges, with many graduates struggling to secure employment due to limited professional experience. Employers frequently require prior workplace exposure, creating barriers for first-time job seekers despite their academic qualifications.
By providing short-term employment opportunities, LWSC aims to help address that challenge by giving students and recent graduates the practical experience needed to transition more effectively from education into the workforce.
The Corporation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting youth development through initiatives that promote skills acquisition, professional growth and meaningful employment opportunities, describing investment in young people as an investment in Liberia’s future.
Beyond its statutory responsibility of providing safe water and sanitation services across the country, LWSC said the initiative demonstrates the Corporation’s expanding contribution to national development by supporting programs that strengthen human capital and improve employment prospects for Liberia’s youth.
