Margibi Authorities Ready to Tackle Menace of Drugs Abuse | News

Authorities in Margibi County have pledged their full support to the government’s efforts to combat drug abuse in the country, while also acknowledging drugs as a significant challenge within the county.

Superintendent Ojay Morris, Jr who heads the county’s administration and a member of the county legislative caucus, Senator James Emmanuel Nuquay both over the weekend disclosed their plans to address the issue of drugs in the county.

They made their disclosures in Compound Town in the Larkay-ta Township, district #4.

It is being reported that in Larkay-ta that a lot of school going age children have resulted in taking drugs and abandoning their education according to a survey some residents of the area say they have conducted.

The officials emphasized the importance of declaring drugs as a serious threat to the county and highlighted the need to combat it to protect the younger generation. They have organized joint security meetings and community initiatives to tackle drug abuse, with a program planned in Kakaka to promote the “Margibi Say No to Drugs” campaign.

“We had a joint security meeting, and, in my office, I called all of the security apparatus to come and wanted us to discuss and see how we can address the issue of drugs in Margibi. I gave an inscription saying ‘Margibi Say No to Drugs’. So, with Margibi Say No to Drugs and then I have come here and heard Larkay-ta fighting drugs then meaning we all are on path. We’re going to declare drugs a serious enemy in Margibi County.”

He further elaborated that drugs should be seen as an enemy in order to save the young generation of the county.

He told the gathering that a successful meeting was held, and another one is expected to be hosted Wednesday of this week after which the county caucus will be officially informed about the county administration’s plan against drugs.

He said a very big program will be held in Kakaka very soon that will see people from all parts of the county forming part of the Margibi Say No to Drugs Campaign.

 Task forces will be established in every district to coordinate the fight against drugs, with commendation given to the efforts made by residents in Larkay-ta.

Nuquay lauded the move by local authorities to organize themselves to battle drugs as he assured them of his office’s fullest support.

“As you all are aware, drugs are destroying the future of our young people. As we are struggling, making every effort to ensure that we educate them, many of them are going astray by taking drugs so it’s not a fight for the government alone,” the senator said.

The senator believes that drugs should be seen as an enemy not only in Margibi but anywhere in Liberia.

Senator Nuquay expressed his support for local initiatives and emphasized the need for collective action to combat drug abuse, stating that it is crucial for the future of young people in Margibi and beyond.
