Margibi County Senator, James Emmanuel Nuquay, has highlighted the impact of ongoing government initiatives in his native county. The senator, during a school dedication ceremony in Larkay-ta Township in District #4 over the weekend, emphasized the transformation of the Larkay-ta Public School into a senior high institution, made possible through government funding allocated by the Legislature.
The project, which cost US$54,000, was implemented by the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE) in collaboration with a local contractor..
“Today, you are feeling the impact of the government by the fact that we were able to use government money to elevate Larkay-ta Public School to a high school,” the senator said
The project is a six-room building that hosts the senior high section of the Larkay-ta Public School which has operated up to only junior high division since its establishment.
Nuquay had revealed during the ground breaking on February 15 this year that the project was being funded by the government through the Legislature with a US$54,000 cost.
In attendance at the dedication were several local officials, including superintendent Ojay Morris Jr., Representative Emmanuel O. Yarhand other community leaders. The senator underscored the importance of legislative projects in addressing the needs of constituents and leveraging national resources for community development. He emphasized the positive impact of quality representation, illustrating how advocacy for legislative projects can benefit local communities.
While explaining the essence of legislative projects, the lawmaker added that people who initially criticized their advocacy for a legislative project did not consider that when they speak for the people who voted for them through adequate representation, the impacts can be seen through national projects.
He continued that had it not been for a legislative intervention, the elevation of the school to a senior high level may not have been achieved or it could be done but in a very distant future.
“This is what quality representation does. We go there, we speak for you, we ensure that we tap on national resources and bring them to our respective counties and districts so that our people feel the impact of the government, ” the senator averred.
Predicated upon this situation, he stated that as representations of the people especially at the National Legislature, they will always have to speak for their constituents.
Senator Nuquay encouraged community ownership of the project and emphasized the significance of effective partnership with the Ministry of Education for the successful utilization of the newly upgraded school facilities. He pledged to support school fees for the academic year and highlighted future plans for additional infrastructure enhancements, including a water facility.
“You have to own this project by giving their fullest cooperation to the relevant authorities like you did during the construction period. You gave the contractors maximum support which assisted in speeding up the implementation of the project,” he said. “This is a very important project. I have been informed that this is even considered a legacy project amongst the current projects implemented by LACE.”
He challenged the Ministry of Education to ensure that the project is utilized commencing this academic year to enable it to live up to its essence, while at same time pledging to shoulder the costs of registration and activities fees for this school year.
He described the school as a fulfilment of his commitment to them thereby keeping their hope alive that other components of the school like the auditorium and teachers lounge could follow.
He promised to build a water facility in collaboration with the superintendent using the drilling rig he secured for the county if the plan from the county administration does not cover it.
The Ministry of Education reiterated its commitment to ensuring the school’s operational readiness for the upcoming academic year, demonstrating a shared commitment to enhancing educational opportunities in the area. The project exemplifies collaborative efforts to improve local infrastructure and provide a conducive learning environment for students.
