MONROVIA – The Ministry of Health (MOH) has officially commenced the nationwide distribution of 42 state-of-the-art ultrasound machines, aiming to strengthen diagnostic capacity and improve the quality of healthcare services across Liberia.
The initiative, part of the government’s ARREST Agenda to enhance service delivery in the health sector, marks a significant step toward modernizing Liberia’s medical infrastructure. Health officials say the program will help hospitals and clinics provide timely and accurate diagnoses, particularly in maternal and child health, internal medicine, and emergency care.
The first phase of the distribution began in Montserrado County, targeting key referral and community health facilities. Among the initial beneficiaries are the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFK), Redemption Hospital, James David Jr. (JDJ) Memorial Hospital, and the Barnersville Health Center. Health authorities emphasized that these institutions were selected for their critical role in serving large populations and providing specialized medical care.
According to the Ministry of Health, the deployment of these advanced ultrasound machines will also enhance training opportunities for healthcare workers, ensuring that medical staff can efficiently utilize modern technology to diagnose and treat patients. Officials say the program reflects a broader commitment by the government to modernize Liberia’s health sector and expand access to essential medical services, particularly in underserved communities.
The MOH confirmed that subsequent phases of the distribution will extend to other counties, with the goal of ensuring that all health facilities nationwide are equipped with the necessary tools to deliver improved healthcare outcomes.
