MONROVIA – The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) has reported a steady decline in Mpox cases nationwide, with the latest update showing an increase in recoveries and no fatalities since the outbreak began. The latest figures were released Friday evening, June 27, 2025, by NPHIL Director-General Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan.
According to the update, Liberia now has 17 active Mpox cases, down from 18 earlier in the week, while 158 patients have fully recovered. Significantly, the country has not recorded any deaths due to the disease, a milestone that health authorities attribute to rapid response efforts and public cooperation.
Dr. Nyan emphasized the need for continued vigilance, advising the public to avoid physical contact, wash or sanitize hands frequently, and immediately report any suspected symptoms to health authorities or the NPHIL.
“These results show that we’re making measurable progress, but this is not the time for complacency,” said Dr. Nyan. “Our teams are working across the country to contain the outbreak, and we urge all Liberians to support these efforts by following health guidelines.”
The June 27 update follows a previous report from June 24, which documented 18 active cases and 157 recoveries. With the new data, Liberia’s public health authorities are encouraged by the downward trend, but stress that community cooperation remains essential.
NPHIL continues to lead the national Mpox response under the Incident Management System (IMS), deploying surveillance teams, increasing awareness, and coordinating with both local and international health partners to prevent further spread.
The Institute reaffirmed its commitment to regular public updates and transparency throughout the response process.
