MONROVIA – Lenn Eugene Nagbe, former Chief of Staff to ex-President George Weah, has formally requested that the Liberia National Police (LNP) launch a preliminary investigation into the death of Cletus Noah. The request comes amid serious allegations made by Noah’s brother, Mr. Cain Tozo, accusing Nagbe, former Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah, and others of playing a role in Noah’s sudden death.
In a letter dated May 8, 2025, Nagbe urged the police to determine whether foul play was involved in the death of Mr. Noah, who reportedly passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Hospital in Monrovia. His death has stirred widespread shock across Liberia’s political landscape, drawing emotional reactions from opposition voices and members of the ruling establishment alike.
According to the complaint, on May 7, Mr. Tozo contacted Nagbe via WhatsApp, alleging that he, Tweah, and unnamed “henchmen” were involved in Noah’s death. The message, described by Nagbe as “outrageous” and “damaging,” also included threats, including a warning to “wait for the burial” and that Tozo was “coming for” him. Nagbe attached screenshots and a transcript of the exchange as evidence, asserting that the threats endangered his personal safety and demanded clarity through a formal investigation.
“These allegations are both serious and damaging, not only to my reputation but also present a threat to my personal safety and security,” Nagbe stated. “To ensure that the truth is established and to dispel any misinformation or suspicion, I formally request that the Liberia National Police conducts a preliminary investigation into the death of Mr. Cletus Noah to determine whether or not there was in fact any foul play.”
In a related development, a controversial social media post believed to have been shared by outspoken political commentator Prophet Key has added to the storm of speculation. The post includes a screenshot of a message allegedly sent to Prophet Key on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 9:01 PM. The anonymous message claimed, “Samuel Tweah poisoned his former Chief of Staff to destroy evidence. He felt Cletus would testify against him. That’s why he killed the man. Cletus’ family knows he was poisoned. Please discuss this on your platform.”
Though the identity of the sender remains unverified, the message has further fueled public suspicion and raised the stakes for a thorough police investigation. The allegations against Tweah, who served as Finance Minister in the Weah administration, have not been substantiated, and no formal accusations have been made by law enforcement.
Nagbe emphasized that a police-led inquiry would not only help clear his name but also bring closure to the bereaved family. “I am available, should the LNP require any further clarification around this matter,” he concluded in his letter.
As of press time, the Liberia National Police had not responded publicly to Nagbe’s request.
