MONROVIA — The North Central Alliance has called for the speedy and impartial trial of all persons arrested in connection with Liberia’s ongoing drug investigation, warning against political interference, misinformation or attempts to undermine the process.

The group made the call Thursday, Aug. 20, during a press briefing in Monrovia, where its statement was read by Secretary-General Moses Kewhai.
\n
“This fight is not a joke. You can play politics with anything, but do not tamper with the ongoing drug investigation,” Kewhai said, reading the alliance’s statement.
\n
The NCA also called for the trial of those it said have been apprehended in connection with the drug investigation, including former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, whom the alliance identified in its statement as among those arrested and being investigated.
\n
“We call for the speedy and impartial trial of all those that have been apprehended, including Sister Jewel Howard Taylor,” the statement said.
\n
The alliance’s assertion regarding Howard Taylor was presented as its own claim during the briefing.
\n
The press conference focused on the ongoing investigation following recent seizures of large quantities of cocaine in Montserrado and Margibi counties and investigations involving Liberian and foreign nationals.
\n
The NCA, which described itself as a geopolitical movement advocating greater citizen participation in governance, said it was taking its position “with clarity and distinction, with credibility and integrity, and with no modicum of fear and favor.”
\n
It strongly condemned the alleged collaboration between Liberians and foreign drug traffickers, arguing that the movement of large quantities of cocaine into Liberia poses a serious threat to national security and the country’s youthful population.
\n
“Hauling controlled substances in such massive quantities to a small population with volatile and porous borders, in a country that has gone through wars, Ebola and COVID-19, has no other intention than destroying the future of the motherland,” the alliance said.
\n
“Simply put, you are an existential threat to Liberia,” it added, referring to those allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
\n
The NCA commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration for its handling of the investigation so far but urged the government to ensure that its pledge of having no “untouchables” is reflected throughout the investigation and any subsequent prosecution.
\n
“We hope, as declared, that some people will not be shielded because of their proximity to power or because of vested interests,” the group said.
\n
According to the alliance, the credibility of the government’s anti-drug campaign will depend on whether authorities allow investigators and the courts to proceed without political interference or preferential treatment.
\n
The NCA also criticized what it described as attempts by some elements within the opposition community to use misinformation, disinformation and smear campaigns to shape public perception of the investigation.
\n
The group did not identify any individual or organization it accused of engaging in those activities.
\n
“We want you to stop. We want you to stop. If you do not, we will rally the generality of our people to take their own lawful actions against you within the ambit of the Patriots’ creed,” the statement read.
\n
Despite the warning, the alliance maintained that the investigation should not become a political contest, saying the focus should remain on establishing the facts and holding accountable anyone found to have violated Liberian law.
\n
The NCA reiterated its demand for a speedy and impartial judicial process and urged authorities to guard against political considerations influencing the outcome.
\n
“We hope that there shall be no travesty that will veer the course of justice. We are watching,” the alliance said.
