Dr. Daanue Paye Zwuogbae, the newly inducted County Health Officer (CHO) of Bong County, has vowed to significantly reduce maternal deaths in the county.
Dr. Zwuogbae believes that preventing maternal deaths at all levels is the first step in improving Bong County’s health system.
During his induction ceremony at the Bong County Health Team Office on the Phebe Compound recently, he emphasized that it is not acceptable for a woman to die during childbirth.
He used the occasion to call on health workers in the county to strengthen services at clinics, especially in rural areas, adding that such measures would greatly help reduce maternal deaths.
Dr. Zwuogbae described it as disheartening to see mothers and their babies dying during childbirth, emphasizing the urgent need to do everything possible to save their lives.
He succeeds Dr. Jefferson K. Sibley, who now serves as Technical Advisor for all County Health Officers across Liberia.
Prior to his appointment, Dr. Zwuogbae served as CHO in Sinoe and Grand Gedeh Counties.
Recently, the Ministry of Health (MoH) honored him and his team in Grand Gedeh for reporting zero maternal deaths in May and June this year.
His leadership skills and wealth of experience as a Medical Director, County Health Officer, and in other key positions within Liberia’s health sector will be instrumental in building on the achievements of his predecessor, Dr. Sibley, and in strengthening the county’s health system.
Additionally, the Bong County Health Team (BoCHT) extends appreciation to Dr. Jefferson K. Sibley for his distinguished service, which has significantly contributed to the growth and improvement of the health sector in Bong County.
While preparations are underway to officially honor him, Dr. Sibley was gowned at the induction program as an initial token of appreciation for his service to the healthcare delivery system of the County.
For her part, Bong County Superintendent Hawa Loleyah Norris lauded the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Health for the appointment of Dr. Zwuogbae at the County Health Team.
She said the appointment of the new County Health Team Officer will help in buttressing and improving the health sector.
The Bong County Superintendent urged Dr. Zwuogbae to collaborate with his colleagues to enhance the efficiency of the County Health Team.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Bong County Health Team, Medical Directors, Officers-In-Charge of various Clinics, health workers, among others.
