NLA Refutes Allegations of Corruption and Nepotism | News

The Management of the National Lottery Authority (NLA)has strongly dismissed recent allegations of corruption, nepotism, illegal employment, intimidation, and dismissal circulating in the public and media, including reports published by a local daily.

In a statement issued by the Authority, the NLA described the claims as “false, misleading, and intended to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of the institution and its Director General, Hon. Peter L. Solo.”

The Authority emphasized that all of its operations, recruitment processes, and management practices are guided by established policies, procedures, and the laws of the Republic of Liberia.

“At no time has the Authority engaged in favoritism, political interference, or family-based considerations in its employment or decision-making processes,” the statement clarified.

As Liberia’s statutory body mandated to oversee gaming and gambling activities nationwide, the NLA stressed that it operates under a strict regulatory framework and remains committed to principles of transparency, accountability, and good governance.

“We take pride in maintaining public trust and ensuring that all stakeholders and employees of the NLA are treated fairly and equally,” the statement noted.

The Authority further pointed out that allegations of intimidation or victimization of staff are taken seriously and are investigated through its internal mechanisms. It added that under the current administration, no employee has been dismissed or demoted, contrary to public speculation. Instead, the NLA has been formalizing the status of long-serving volunteers and promoting qualified staff through established procedures.

While acknowledging the media’s role in promoting accountability, the NLA expressed concern over the publication of unverified claims without first seeking clarification from the institution. It urged journalists to uphold the principles of fairness, accuracy, and balance in reporting.

The Authority also called on the public and stakeholders to rely only on official communications from the NLA for accurate information.

Meanwhile, the NLA reaffirmed its statutory mandate of raising much-needed revenue to support national development programs while safeguarding the credibility of gaming activities in Liberia.

“The NLA assures the Liberian people of its unwavering dedication to professionalism, service, and national interest,” the statement concluded.
