Nphil Director-general Visits Nrl To Assess And Strengthen Public Health Practices

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – On Friday, March 9, 2025, Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan, the Director-General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), shared an update on his official Facebook page following a visit to the National Reference Laboratory (NRL). The visit, part of his ongoing work to improve Liberia’s public health system, involved a detailed assessment of the country’s diagnostic procedures, particularly in the context of outbreak responses.

During his time at the laboratory, Dr. Nyan interacted with young scientists who had recently been inducted into NPHIL. He discussed laboratory techniques and workflow improvements with them, providing guidance to enhance their training. Dr. Nyan also met with the leadership of the Diagnostic Division to review both the progress made and the challenges faced in Liberia’s public health response efforts.

The Director-General also evaluated the laboratory’s sample transport and storage processes to ensure that they meet international standards and are prepared for future public health challenges. In his post, Dr. Nyan expressed optimism about the strides NPHIL has made under his leadership, acknowledging that while the institute is not yet where it aims to be, it has made significant progress. He emphasized the importance of continued improvement and expressed confidence in the direction the institute is heading.

Dr. Nyan’s combination of administrative leadership and scientific expertise is playing a key role in addressing Liberia’s public health challenges, as NPHIL works to strengthen the country’s ability to respond to health crises effectively.
