Nphil Welcomes New Batch Of Interns To Boost Public Health Capacity

MONROVIA – The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), under the leadership of Director-General Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan, has welcomed a new cohort of university graduates and graduating students as part of its ongoing internship program. The initiative aims to strengthen professional development and capacity building in the public health sector.

Drawn from several academic institutions, including the University of Liberia, Adventist University of West Africa, Tubman University, Stella Maris Polytechnic University, and Cavendish University of Uganda, the interns bring with them academic backgrounds in Public Health, Microbiology, Environmental Science, and related fields. They have been placed across various technical and administrative departments within NPHIL to gain practical experience aligned with their studies.

According to Mr. Aloysius Geekor, Officer-in-Charge of the Human Resource Division, the internship initiative is a core element of NPHIL’s broader strategy to enhance the country’s health workforce. “This initiative is designed to provide practical exposure and help build a database of future public health professionals who could potentially join the workforce,” Geekor said.

The internship period spans two to three months, during which interns will undergo hands-on training and mentorship. Upon completion, NPHIL will evaluate their performance and submit official assessments to their respective universities.

Meanwhile, this latest recruitment of interns reaffirms NPHIL’s commitment to investing in the next generation of health professionals and ensuring a sustainable pipeline of skilled personnel for Liberia’s public health infrastructure.
