MONROVIA – The Liberia National Road Fund (NRF) has done it again. Always the go-getter when it comes to community empowerment through roads rehabilitation, provision of educational and employment opportunities for the country’s largely youthful population, the NRF during the week donated 28 motorbikes, a pickup, as well as computers and printing equipment to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Turning over the items to the MIA during an official handover ceremony held at the National Road Fund office in Monrovia, NRF Manager, Mrs. Joseta Neufville-Wento, emphasized the importance of empowering community members to contribute to national development effectively.
“We cannot continue to do roads and forget about our people that are in the towns and villages, and together, we hope to meet our target for road maintenance.” Mrs. Wento said.
The youthful looking and articulate NRF boss furthered that the donation is part of the ongoing commitment to ensure that communities across Liberia benefit from improved road access and service delivery, and Community-Based Organizations are key partners in maintaining rural infrastructure and promoting local development.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Ministry, Internal Affairs Minister Francis S. Nyumalin, Sr., expressed deep appreciation to the NRF for what he described as a “timely and impactful gesture.”
“These motorbikes and the pickup truck will go a long way in strengthening our field presence; we will make sure that our drainage, primarily and secondary roads, are maintained,” Minister Nyumalin said.
Beyond just fixing roads, the project also creates job opportunities, especially for young people. Around one thousand youths will be hired as road monitors, giving them meaningful work while improving infrastructure.
The program supports the government’s goal of involving communities more in development and spreading services fairly across the country.
