Peter Nwachukwu Sentenced To Death By Hanging For Killing Gospel Singer Osinachi

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja on Monday, April 28, 2025, sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, to death by hanging after finding him guilty of culpable homicide.

Osinachi, who died on April 8, 2022, was a celebrated lead singer at the Dunamis International Gospel Centre. Her death shocked the nation and ignited widespread outrage after colleagues and family members accused her husband of subjecting her to years of brutal domestic abuse, which ultimately led to her death.

During the trial, the prosecution presented overwhelming evidence, including testimony from 17 witnesses and 25 documents submitted to the court. Among the witnesses were two of the couple’s children, whose accounts painted a harrowing picture of sustained violence and cruelty in their home.

The court’s ruling marked the end of a prolonged legal battle that had gripped public attention across Nigeria and beyond, with many rights activists and religious communities demanding justice for the late singer.

Peter Nwachukwu’s conviction and sentencing send a strong message about the consequences of domestic violence in Nigeria, reinforcing calls for greater protection of vulnerable individuals, particularly women, against abuse.
