Pres. Boakai Commissions Renovated Maternity Ward And Triage Unit At Tubmanburg Government Hospital

TUBMANBURG, BOMI COUNTY — On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai officially commissioned the newly renovated maternity ward and triage unit at the Government Hospital in Tubmanburg, a significant step in enhancing maternal and child healthcare in Bomi County.

The project, championed and funded by First Lady Kartumu Yarta Boakai, forms part of broader national efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery for women and children across Liberia. At a vibrant dedication ceremony, attended by Second Lady Synleseh Stephanie Dahn-Koung, African Development Bank President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, senior government officials, local leaders, health workers, and residents of Bomi County, President Boakai praised the First Lady’s dedication and vision in addressing critical healthcare needs.

“This facility is not just a building,” President Boakai remarked. “It is a symbol of hope, care, and the value we place on every Liberian life especially our mothers and newborns. I commend the First Lady for her vision and compassion that have brought this critical improvement to the people of Bomi.”

The upgraded maternity ward and triage unit boast modern delivery beds, essential medical supplies, improved sanitation, and expanded space designed to improve patient care. These enhancements are expected to play a vital role in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates in the region while alleviating pressure on neighboring health facilities.

In her address, First Lady Kartumu Yarta Boakai underscored the urgent need to ensure that no woman loses her life in childbirth. “Too many of our women still face unsafe conditions when they come to deliver. This initiative is a small step toward making maternal health safer and more dignified for our mothers.”

The First Lady reaffirmed her ongoing commitment to collaborate with communities and healthcare institutions across Liberia, particularly in underserved counties, to support maternal and child health programs.

The ceremony concluded with a guided tour of the renovated facilities and interactions with hospital staff, who expressed heartfelt appreciation for the transformation. Local officials also lauded the Boakai administration’s prioritization of people-centered development.
