WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has continued his diplomatic mission in the United States, holding high-level discussions with U.S. Congressman Gregory W. Meeks to reinforce the longstanding relationship between Liberia and the United States.
The meeting in Washington brought together President Boakai and Congressman Meeks, who represents New York’s Fifth Congressional District and serves as the Ranking Member of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee as well as a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee. The engagement formed part of President Boakai’s broader efforts to deepen Liberia’s international partnerships while expanding trade, investment, and development cooperation with Washington.
During the meeting, President Boakai outlined his administration’s core priorities, focusing on democratic governance, peace and security, economic transformation, energy expansion, and infrastructure development. The Liberian leader emphasized that the nation’s sustained political stability must translate into tangible improvements for its citizens through job creation, institutional capacity building, and sustainable economic growth.
President Boakai also highlighted Liberia’s upcoming role as a member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2026–2027 term. He stressed the importance of close collaboration with the United States on regional peace, international security, and multilateral diplomacy during Liberia’s tenure.
The delegation engaged in practical discussions on advancing bilateral trade, modernizing energy systems, expanding physical infrastructure, and strengthening security ties to ensure that historical diplomatic relations yield measurable economic benefits for the Liberian people.
President Boakai was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister Without Portfolio Hadja Mamaka Bility, National Security Advisor Samuel Kofi Woods, Director General of the Cabinet Nathaniel T. Kwabo, and Executive Assistant to the President Morie Nemah.
The engagement underscores Monrovia’s deliberate push to transform its traditional friendship with the United States into a robust development partnership centered on economic growth, security, and institutional development.
