President Boakai Reduces Wholesale Price Of Eggs To Ease Economic Burden

MONROVIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has announced a reduction in the wholesale price of eggs as part of his administration’s ongoing price stabilization efforts aimed at protecting consumers and easing economic pressures on Liberian families.

According to an Executive Mansion press release issued Wednesday, September 3, 2025, and signed by Presidential Press Secretary Atty. Kula Bonah Nyei Fofana, the wholesale price of a carton of eggs has been reduced from US$60.00 to US$50.00. The adjustment follows recommendations from the Presidential Ad-Hoc Committee on Price Contradictions, which is chaired by Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung.

The move comes on the heels of earlier interventions by the government that brought down the prices of key staple commodities. A 25kg bag of rice was reduced to US$14.00, while a bag of flour is now sold at US$35.00. Officials say the measures are designed to protect consumers from arbitrary price hikes and ensure that ordinary Liberians are not priced out of basic necessities.

President Boakai stressed that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, along with relevant inspectorates, has been directed to strictly enforce the new pricing regime. He warned that any business or individual found inflating costs beyond the official rates will face the full weight of the law.

“These reductions reflect our determination to fight for the ordinary Liberian and ensure that basic necessities remain within the reach of every family,” President Boakai said.

The President commended Vice President Koung and the Ad-Hoc Committee for what he described as diligent and practical work in addressing price contradictions. He further assured the public that his government is committed to rolling out additional measures to bring down the cost of other essential goods on the market.
