MONROVIA – President Joseph Boakai has reportedly suspended Bryant McGill, Deputy Minister for Youth Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, following allegations that he raped a 14-year-old girl, the daughter of the Ministry’s Deputy Chief of Security.
It is believed that the President made the decision after the Liberia National Police (LNP) confirmed the rape allegation involving McGill. Inspector General Gregory Coleman told reporters on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, that while the child was indeed tampered with, investigators have not yet determined whether McGill was directly responsible. Coleman emphasized that medical and forensic evidence would be critical in establishing the full scope of the crime. “We are committed to a thorough, impartial investigation,” he said, urging the public to remain calm as the process unfolds.
President Boakai’s Press Secretary, Atty. Kula Bonah Nyei Fofana, has not issued an official statement confirming the suspension of McGill.
The case has drawn widespread attention and outrage, particularly due to the alleged involvement of a senior government official. Civil society groups and child protection advocates have called for swift and transparent action to ensure justice and safeguard the rights of the minor throughout the investigation.
Authorities are expected to carry out medical and forensic examinations as part of the inquiry. McGill has reportedly requested a leave of absence, which has been accepted by the Ministry pending the outcome of the investigation.
The allegations first came to light after the victim’s father, Christopher Davis, who serves as Deputy Chief of Security at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, filed a formal complaint with the LNP. The Ministry has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on sexual misconduct and pledged to cooperate fully with law enforcement authorities.
