President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s participation in the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is showcasing Liberia’s diplomatic, economic, and social development priorities on the global stage, with investment, energy, healthcare, and women’s empowerment dominating the administration’s international agenda.
Deputy Information Minister for Public Affairs Daniel O. Sando detailed the President’s UNGA engagements during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing on Thursday, September 24, 2026, describing the mission as a vital opportunity to reinforce international partnerships and attract strategic investments to Liberia.
President Boakai is scheduled to deliver Liberia’s national address during the UN General Debate, where he will outline the nation’s key priorities regarding international cooperation, global peace and security, and sustainable development. Prior to his address, diplomatic discussions were held with key partners to strengthen bilateral relations with the United States and deepen regional ties across Africa.
Highlighting regional collaboration, Minister Sando noted Liberia’s growing partnership with Ghana and other African nations to preserve and digitize historical records and cultural heritage sites—an initiative designed to boost academic research, protect historical sites, and create educational and employment opportunities for Liberian youth.
On domestic economic growth, Sando announced targeted initiatives to advance women’s economic empowerment through expanded access to technology, vocational training, and commercial markets. Central to this strategy is the planned establishment of five integrated technology and business innovation hubs aimed at equipping female entrepreneurs with essential digital tools and resources.
The government is also advancing transformative plans in the energy and healthcare sectors. A new renewable energy initiative is underway to deliver reliable electricity to households, commercial enterprises, schools, and health facilities. Simultaneously, the arrival of modern medical equipment and supplies will strengthen national healthcare delivery, particularly within pediatric diagnostics, surgical operations, and anesthesia services.
Minister Sando further emphasized ongoing inspection and regulatory enforcement efforts to ensure business compliance and improve inter-institutional coordination. He presented these domestic measures, alongside President Boakai’s international mission, as unified components of a broader governance agenda focused on sustainable development, institutional effectiveness, and expanded economic opportunities for all Liberians.
