In a message delivered to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and the people of Liberia, and published by the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia, President Trump expressed appreciation for Liberia’s enduring friendship with the United States and reflected on his recent meeting with President Boakai at the White House.
“On behalf of the American people and the Government of the United States, I send our best wishes to you and the people of Liberia as you celebrate the 178th anniversary of your independence,” President Trump said. “It was a great honor to host you at the White House earlier this month, and I very much enjoyed our meeting.”
He added: “On this occasion, we are proud to reflect on our shared commitment to democracy, economic growth, and regional stability, and look forward to strengthening our partnership for the betterment of both the United States and Liberia. We are grateful for your friendship with the United States and your commitment to enhancing peace and prosperity, and we look forward to continued cooperation in the years ahead.”
President Trump’s message comes as Liberia marks nearly two centuries of independence, rooted in its founding by freed African Americans and a close historical and diplomatic relationship with the United States.
