MONROVIA, August 7, 2026 – The management of Private Sports Bar & Restaurant says no illegal drugs have been found on its premises despite three separate inspections conducted by state security authorities amid the ongoing investigation into Liberia’s alleged US$317 million cocaine trafficking case.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the management assured employees, customers, and the public that the establishment remains committed to the rule of law and continues to cooperate fully with investigators.
The statement comes days after Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah announced that the Joint National Security Investigation Team, headed by the Ministry of Justice, had arrested and charged George Harris, identified as the owner of a private bar and entertainment center in Paynesville, in connection with the high-profile narcotics investigation.
According to the government, Harris has been charged with possession, importation, trafficking, distribution and sale of illicit drugs, economic sabotage, money laundering, criminal conspiracy, criminal facilitation, and criminal solicitation.
Private Sports Bar & Restaurant, however, said it would not comment on the substance of the case involving Harris because the matter is now before the courts.
“The legal process is underway, and we respect the constitutional right to due process. We believe the matter should be allowed to proceed through the courts without prejudice,” the statement said.
The management disclosed that on Thursday at about 10:00 a.m., members of the Joint Security Team conducted a comprehensive search of the premises, both inside and outside the facility.
“No illegal substances were found during the inspection. This was the third inspection since May, and on each occasion, no illegal substances have been discovered on our premises,” the statement added.
The company also questioned the closure of the business, stating that it was not served with a court order or any written legal directive authorizing the action before it was carried out.
According to management, it has engaged legal counsel to determine its rights and seek clarification through the appropriate legal channels.
“While we respect the ongoing legal process, we respectfully ask everyone to remain calm, avoid spreading rumors or misinformation, and allow the justice system to do its work,” the statement said.
Private Sports Bar & Restaurant said it would remain closed for the day but expressed hope of reopening soon. The management reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, cooperation with law enforcement, and maintaining the confidence of its customers, employees, partners, and supporters.
