MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Rev. Emmanuel Nimely, former Religious Advisor to ex-President George Weah, has been released from prison and has reportedly fled the country, Punch FM has confirmed via its Facebook page.
Nimely, Senior Pastor of the Forkay Klon Church established by Weah, was jailed in June 2024 after being charged with theft of property and issuing deceptive writings. He was accused of defrauding multiple Liberians of over US$87,000 by promising bogus overseas travel opportunities.
According to Punch FM, Nimely was released from South Beach Prison on April 15, 2025, along with 19 other inmates facing lesser charges. His release has drawn criticism amid reports that he left Liberia shortly after regaining his freedom, raising doubts about restitution for his victims.
The case has sparked public outrage due to Nimely’s ties to the former president and the scale of the alleged scam. With his apparent flight, many fear the victims may never see justice.
