Monrovia, Liberia; August 22, 2025 – In a disturbing turn of events, Nimba County Senator Samuel G. Kogar narrowly escaped what he describes as “an assassination attempt” involving traditional spiritual powers.
The would-be attacker, a Guinean national identified as Diasielay, was arrested Monday night after allegedly infiltrating the Senator’s Ganta residence with the intent to kill, not with weapons, but with a simple touch.
Speaking on Thursday, August 21, 2025, on OK FM’s Morning Rush, Senator Kogar recounted unsettling days leading up to the arrest.
“The fellow, since last Saturday, had been passing around the community. But each time he asked for me, I’ve been indoors; they would tell him ‘The bossman is not here,’ and he would leave. But he had a bag deposited in the bush,” Kogar explained.
The senator said suspicions grew when a resident allegedly spotted Diasielay outside his compound, oddly pressing his feet into the sand. When questioned, the man gave no clear explanation and was told to leave. Instead, he boldly entered the compound and confronted the senator directly.
“I asked him what he came for, he said he came to the owner of the house. I asked him, ‘Who is the person?’ He replied, ‘I know the person.’ I asked him to name the person. Then he took a red seed from his pocket, which looked like an apple, and said, ‘Here is the man’s name,’” Kogar recounted.
A search of the suspect’s belongings revealed a troubling collection of items, including animal heads, an assortment of objects, and a marble found in his wallet. According to Senator Kogar, a local herbalist later interpreted the marble as a spiritual tool believed to “take human image and spirit away.”
The most chilling revelation, however, came during police interrogation.
“During police questioning, the suspect allegedly admitted he was on a mission to kill me, not by force, but by touch,” Kogar alleged.
“He revealed that he only intended to touch me, and the mission would have been accomplished.”
Diasielay, who reportedly has no formal identification or known record, was initially detained by the Liberia National Police (LNP) Nimba Detachment. He has since been transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Bureau of Customs and Cultural Affairs in Sanniquellie, Nimba County, where traditional authorities, including Chief Herbalist Leroy Gborley are further investigating him.
The Senator further alleged that the suspect confessed to being sent by three people, two men and a woman, to carry out the spiritual assassination. The investigation remains active as officials work to trace individuals behind the alleged plot and the motive.
