MONROVIA, Liberia | August 26, 2025 — Montserrado County Senator Saah Joseph has announced his plans to establish a new political party, the People Action Party (PAP), which he says will be built on principles of equality and collective decision-making. Speaking to a group of potential supporters in Monrovia on August 25, 2025, Senator Joseph stated that the party will not be controlled by a single individual but will instead empower every member to participate in its governance.
“What we want to bring to this country is that no one man should control a political party,” Senator Joseph said. “The people themselves must be in charge in the decision-making process of their party.”
According to the senator, once the PAP is approved by the National Election Commission (NEC), its members will decide who contests every position on the party’s ticket, including the standard bearer. He believes this approach will empower partisans and ensure they feel a true sense of ownership in the party’s direction. He also emphasized that the party would prioritize all members regardless of their financial status. “You may not have it today, but your effort to come here must be respected,” he added.
Senator Joseph, a former stalwart of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), also revealed that the new party will focus on “actions” rather than “anti-antagonistic politics.” He argued that Liberia has been held back by divisive politics and a cycle of blame, which has prevented the country from addressing its most pressing issues.
“We are not here to talk plenty; we are here for actions. We are not here to criticize. We are not here to fight; we are here to work in the interest of our poor people,” he stated.
Drawing inspiration from Singapore, Senator Joseph highlighted the Southeast Asian nation’s development, noting that its own People’s Action Party was instrumental in transforming the country from a struggling state into a booming economy. He suggested that Liberians could achieve similar success by prioritizing the country’s interest over personal gain.
“Liberians can emulate the Singaporeans in order to lift their country from poverty,” he concluded, stressing that this can only be achieved when politicians put the country’s interest above personal aggrandizement.
