Grand Bassa County, Monrovia, Liberia, February 26, 2026: The Liberia National Police (LNP) has confirmed that it is investigating an allegation of attempted rape involving an officer assigned to the Grand Bassa County Police Detachment.
According to an official LNP press release signed by Chief of Press and Public Affairs, DCP Sam K. Collins, the allegation was formally reported on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, through the Professional Standards Department (PSD) and the Women and Children Protection Section (WACPS) at the Grand Bassa County Police Detachment.
The release further indicated that upon receipt of the complaint, the Liberia National Police immediately initiated both administrative and criminal investigative procedures in accordance with established laws, regulations, and internal accountability standards.
“The officer concerned is currently subject to internal administrative review pending the outcome of the investigation. A preliminary investigation is underway to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the allegation. The identity of the complainant is being withheld in keeping with legal and victim-protection standards,” the LNP stated.
On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, dramatic outrage spread through parts of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, after citizens prevented a police officer accused of rape from leaving a public area, as seen in video footage circulating on Facebook.
In the footage, a group of angry residents can be seen surrounding and preventing Officer Alex T. Flampor from moving his vehicle as they demand answers regarding the alleged assault of a teenager. The situation escalated as onlookers grew frustrated and called for justice.
In another video, the alleged victim appeared visibly distressed and unable to walk on her own. Bystanders are seen carrying the teenager as they rushed her toward the Liberian Government Hospital for immediate medical attention.
Those who assisted the victim said in interviews that she told them she was raped by a senior police officer in a hotel. After discovering that she was unconscious due to the alleged assault, the officer reportedly fled the scene.
They further explained that when the victim regained consciousness and some strength, she attempted to go home, but collapsed on the way, prompting their intervention and the subsequent disclosure of the incident.
“To be honest, this officer has a reputation for pursuing young girls, mainly teenagers. The oldest age we have seen him with is seventeen. We are not surprised, but we want the government to ensure he is punished for this. This is complete wickedness. He has a family in Monrovia, but here he is damaging our girls,” they concluded.
Meanwhile, the Liberia National Police further emphasized that the allegation remains under investigation and that the officer is presumed innocent unless and until proven otherwise by a court of competent jurisdiction.
“The LNP maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct, particularly in matters involving Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), abuse of authority, or violations of human rights.
Any officer found to have engaged in criminal, unethical, or SGBV-related conduct will face the full weight of the law in addition to internal disciplinary measures. The Liberia National Police assured the public that this matter is being handled impartially, professionally, and without interference. Members of the public are encouraged to remain calm and allow the investigative process to proceed. Further updates will be provided as appropriate and in accordance with the law.” The release concluded.
